Artist Statement
In my artistic practice, I explore love — in its broad, vivid, and creative manifestations.I am interested not only in romantic love, but also in love for friends, for one’s work, for the city, for culture, for memories. I perceive love as a way of being and a way of interacting with the world.
I work primarily in the field of painting, while also engaging with performative practices, as well as digital and spatial constructions. In my works, I search for detailed manifestations of love — from which one could compose an immense dictionary, an encyclopedia. Each element of my archive is an unnoticed gesture, a fleeting word, an everyday act of attention. I collect them in order to once again experience that state when a flower begins to bloom inside.
My work is not about preserving feelings, but about the possibility of living through them anew. It is important for me to experience it once more — to say “thank you,” to pay tribute to the moment. I perceive this striving toward respect for the past as part of an Eastern cultural code. At the same time, I draw inspiration not only from the past or from real events, but also from dreams and fantasies. It doesn’t matter whether the love was mutual or “the one.” What matters is whether the work, in the process of its creation, evokes a feeling of love and intoxicating gratitude. Everything else is secondary.
There is so much pain and anxiety in the world, and often we don’t know where to look for answers.
Perhaps we could try looking for love?
